Making Silverware Organizers Shine
I love an organizer for all of my silverware. In my super cluttered kitchen, it helps save space and makes it seem like at least something is in its place. But the other day, I grabbed my fabulous Uncommon Goods butter knife and noticed something sticky at the bottom of the organizer. Plus a ton of crumbs. Yuck! I couldn’t remember the last time I had cleaned it, if ever.
Silverware organizers can get pretty gross. They often sit on the counter or in a drawer, collecting dust and other random stuff. So just like our sinks, silverware organizers deserve some TLC too.
Here’s how I got my silverware organizer sparkling clean again.
What You'll Need
- Warm water
- A HeySunday dishwasher sheet
- A sponge or dishcloth
- A small brush (an old toothbrush works great!)
- A towel for drying
How To Do It
- Take all the silverware out of the organizer. If your organizer has removable parts or a drip tray, take those apart as well.
- Fill your sink or a large bowl with a HeySunday dishwasher sheet dissolved in warm water. Submerge the organizer and any removable parts in the water. Let them soak for a few minutes to loosen any stuck-on crumbs or sticky stuff.
- Using your sponge or dishcloth, give the organizer a good scrub. Pay extra attention to the bottom and any crevices where gunk tends to hide. This is where that old toothbrush comes in handy!
- Once you’ve scrubbed everything, rinse the organizer and its parts thoroughly with clean water. You don’t want any soapy residue clinging to your clean silverware!
- Now, the most important part: drying! Use a clean towel to dry the organizer and all its parts completely. Don’t put your silverware back in until everything is bone dry. This will prevent mold and mildew from forming. You can also let the organizer air dry for a bit if you prefer.
Extra Tips
- How often you clean your silverware organizer depends on how often you use it and how messy things get. I try to give mine a good cleaning at least every couple of weeks.
- Always check the manufacturer’s instructions if you have any concerns. Some materials might be more delicate and require gentler cleaning.
Pretty simple, right? And way better than getting sticky crumbs on your silverware. Keep an eye on your organizers and follow these easy steps when you see them looking nasty. They’ll shine in no time!
